Sixth Grade Summer Reading List

Choose one book from each subject to read over the summer.  You will be required to take an AR test on each of the three books you read in addition to the assignment below the titles.

Reading:  Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen, or

                 The View from Saturday by E. L. Konigsburg

Assignment:  You may complete a book review on our blog (http://dunbar.mcm.schoolinsites.com/) or turn in a reading response journal with at least 25 entries due the first day of school.

Social Studies:  Letters from Rifka by Karen Hesse, or

      Letters from the Corrugated Castle:  A Novel of Gold Rush California, 1850-1852 by Jan W. Blos

Assignment:  Find one newspaper article or website and write an essay relating the content of the book with the newspaper article or website.

Science:  Escaping the Giant Wave by Peg Kehret, or

                     Silent Storm by Sherry Garland

Assignment:  Write an essay relating the content of the the book to science.
