Connecting the Classroom to the Real World!
Dunbar's second annual Career Day will be November 6, 2009, from 7:30-10:30. This is a great opportunity for our students to see the connection from the classroom to the real world. Students need to understand that it is vital in today's world to seek further education whether it is a trade school, four-year college, or an advanced degree. We would like for our speakers to relate to our students (4th - 8th graders) the importance of making good choices, staying in school, and setting goals.
Speakers will tell our students about their careers. They will answer questions such as, what made you decide to select your career? What type of training or education is required for your career; what is your typical day like? Then, the students will have an opportunity to ask our speakers questions. We are anticipating speakers who are business owners, FBI agents, judges, attorneys, firefighters, police, detectives, federal marshals, representatives from Mayor Jones' office, representatives from District Attorney John Tyson's office, physicians, nurses, health care workers, college professors, college president, morticians, federal prosecutor, T.V. personalities, entrepreneurs, day care providers, Martial Arts instructors, and many, many more.
This year, we have added a new facet to our Career Day that integrates the arts. We will have musicians with recording studios, dance professionals with studios, Drama instructors who provide Drama camps, Ballet Mistresses, and an owner of an Art studio.
We believe it is important to showcase the Arts at our school because our students excel in the Arts. We would like for them to see how they can make a successful living in the area of the Arts.
