Parent Letter  

Dear Parents & Students, 

Welcome to Dunbar Middle School. My name is Mr. J. King. I am the 8th grade Physical Science teacher at Dunbar Middle School. This will be my 19th year in the Mobile County Public School System.  I look forward to teaching your child this upcoming school year.  

This year your child will learn Physical Science through hands on activities, various technology means, and relate science with the real world activities. Most of this will be done within the classroom. Student's shall expect weekly quizzes and projects every quarter.  

I believe physical science is interesting and relates to every aspect of life. I will work with your child to ensure that they understand the relationship between science and there everyday life.

  • Students will have the opportunity to explore science using auditory, tactile and visual skills.
  • Students will participate in hands on activities using technology.


  • Test will account for 60% of total calculated grade.

Chapter test will be given one week upon completion with advanced notice.

  • Quizzes will account for 15% of the total calculated grade.

Quizzes will be announced and unannounced, quizzes will be given on a weekly basis.

  • Project will account for 25% of the total calculated grade.

Notification of the project and the grading rubric and criteria will be given to the students  at least two week inadvance.


  • Worksheets provided during class are to be completed during class, if they are not completed during class they will be considered homework.
